The living room is the room where we spend most of our time. This can be a space for relaxation, work and socializing. Its layout therefore plays an important role, especially because it can be considered a business card for our guests. Therefore, in this article I will explain to you in a few simple steps how to organize your living room.
1. Planning is essential when you want to organize your stay
Start by making an assessment. You can start by answering the following questions:
- What purpose do you want to use the living room for (e.g. work space, place to receive guests, relaxation space, etc.)?
- What shape does it have and how large is the surface area of the room (small/large, rectangular, square)?
- In what style do you want to furnish (vintage, modern, minimalist, rustic, romantic/feminine, etc.)?
- What will be the central point of the room? (the TV, the HI – Fi system, the landscape from the window)
Ideally, we would start from 0 with an empty room. Then, we can choose what colors we will have in the living room once finished. My advice is to opt for light colors. The main advantage is the color of the living room, which will contribute to the creation of a pleasant state of mind. Scientifically proven fact.
However, it is not mandatory. You can use wallpapers or dark colors to create a contrast with the furniture.

After answering the above questions, you will have a clearer picture of choosing furniture. However, it is necessary to take into account the shape of the room and the fact that the room should not be crowded with many bodies. According to the form:
- Rectangular. Furnishing options can be different. My advice is to be careful not to create a tunnel or a tunnel sensation. You can divide the camera into two areas, a social area with armchairs and sofa and a dining area. The two areas can be separated by carpets or by a comfortable station placed perpendicular to the longest wall.
- Square. You can put a table in the center of the room and around it you can place a sofa or a corner with armchairs to create a pleasant social area. In the case of the central object, it can be placed on one of the walls or in one of the corners, and the rest of the furniture is oriented on the diagonal of the room.
- Small in size. In this case, the space should be used efficiently and at the same time not create a feeling of agglomeration. You can use furniture that has multiple roles such as a sofa, an extendable chair or a stool. You can also attach shelves to the walls to have extra space to store your things. To create the feeling of an airy space, I recommend using furniture that has legs and is not attached to the wall.
3. Choose appropriate lighting
Choosing chandeliers and lighting fixtures is the next step. Depending on how you want to organize your living room and the end goal, there are two types of light shades you can use. Warm light is recommended for relaxation, while cold light is recommended if the living room is your work space.
You can also use spotlights to highlight certain aspects of your decor or lamps to illuminate the environment.
4. Integrate technology
You need to think about how you will integrate the electronic equipment when you set up the living room. For example, if you choose to have a vintage style living room, you can fix it to the wall and surround it with a frame. At the same time, you can hide it in a comfortable space equipped with sliding doors.
If you furnish in a modern style, another idea is to fix it to the wall and place some paintings or frames with photos around it. The idea is that there is no “black spot” on the wall in your room when the TV is turned off.
Also, in the case of devices that have a lot of wires, such as a home cinema or hi-fi system, decorative cable channels are used. An alternative could be the use of wireless speakers and soundbar systems for small surfaces.
5. Use decorative items
